Last full day before the eight-night Mount Pisgah camping trip. Got back to packing for it early, found that there wasn’t all that much left to do. Waited until E got up before starting to load the car, didn’t want to disturb her (nice temps, her window was open). Swept the kitchen floor, saw once again that it needs mopping, decided once again to put it off.

What do I need to get for groceries?

Ate cottage cheese for lunch (with pickle, olives, kimchi) … it was good!

Finished packing, loaded up the car. Lots more room left this time around, no telescope and a small tote swapped for the large one. Did laundry after supper, duffel still mostly empty, need to put some of the clothes I packed loose in there. Food is all gathered for loading into the cooler tomorrow morning. I think I’ll just have one double-strength coffee in the morning, save some time and some liquid intake.

Watched S1E2 of Sherlock, still fun.

Almost done with Midnight in Chernobyl. The HBO series took some liberties with the history for drama’s sake, but its essence was correct. If anything the book makes it much clearer how monumental the disaster was.

Beautiful day today, think the high was 71 degrees! Will be getting hotter, 90 by the weekend … but I’ll be in the much cooler mountains by then.

No real plans for this trip. I will look for a decent hike convenient to the campground, and I’m perfectly happy to take the exact same hike every day if I find a good one. Otherwise I expect to spend the time reading. I’d like to spend some of it writing, but only if it comes naturally. I do plan to continue making daily journal entries like these, which I’ll publish here all at once when I get back.
